As required by job description, all employees are included in Young’s medical monitoring surveillance program, and in addition, conform to Young’s DOT alcohol and drug screening program. Safety performance is evaluated and monitored through bi-monthly training, internal random site audits, on-site training, safety award incentives, and several industry-specific training programs. Besides providing in-house training to Young’s employees, a few members of Young’s professional staff serve as adjunct instructors in the specialized training programs at the Michigan State Police Hazardous Materials Training Center.
Two factors that are evidence of Young’s focus on safety are their Experience Modification Rate (EMR) and OSHA recordable incident rate. Young’s has an annual average of +/- 200,000 total working hours. Young’s currently maintains an EMR of 0.85 as of their insurance renewal on December 31, 2020, and has never had an on-the-job site fatality.
